“ I went to this restaurant in Koreatown to try their kimchee soup with beef, along with other side dishes. It was 16 bucks. The owners explained what to do with the dish and how to eat it with the other food. They even gave me free fish, which I admired and appreciated very much. Great food and great service! Very welcoming! ”
“ We finally decided to try Jang An for a quick lunch after passing by the place everytime we drive down Olympic Blvd. It's located across the street from the Hannam Chain Korean market. We ordered the mixed doenjang jjigae (soybean paste soup) and grilled mackerel. The doenjang jjigae was decent, nothing special and reminds of me home-style cooking. The grilled mackerel was actually pretty good...perfectly grilled with a crispy exterior. I wouldn't mind coming back here for their grilled fish items, especially because it's hard to grill fish at home like that. The owners also seem like really nice people, and the service was great! Jang An is a no frills, comfortable, hole in the wall type of place. It ain't fancy, but it's perfect for a quick, home-style Korean meal. ”

“ If you want to experience what authentic doenjang (bean paste) soup tastes like, this is the spot for you. This is the closest I've experienced to what I've had in Korea. Their doenjang tastes more fermented than others and the depth of flavor is intense. I would describe it as lighter than cheonggukjang but more pungent than doenjang soups from other Ktown restaurants. I went the traditional route with the anchovy option and was very satisfied. FYI there are chunks of anchovy pieces in the soup so I'd opt for something else if that bothers you. We also got the squid stir fry lunch special and it was one of the best versions we've had of this dish. The smoky flavors hit your nose and palate, and cooked to the right chewy texture. Another thing we were impressed with was the quality and cook of their rice. It was cooked to a plump and firm texture, where you could really appreciate each individual grain. Brownies points for their attention to detail! This is a fairly small restaurant that offers free parking. It's right across from Hannah Chain so easy to spot. Highly recommend! ”

“ Totally like home made food and owner and workers (family?) are super nice! I love their fried fish and octopus dish. Makes me think it's something made by a grandma in shi-gol (countryside) in Korea. They even deliver in ktown but highly recommend eating there. Planning to go back soon! ”
“ My local friend recommended this restaurant. We ordered spicy pork and spicy squid with lettuce wraps. My son wanted bulgogi but they ran out so she said we should get the spicy pork and it wouldn't be too spicy for my son. Unfortunately it was a little too spicy for him. The spicy squid was really tasty and was perfect with the lettuce wraps. ”
“ We drove by Jang An for almost two years and had never noticed it. Until recently, they finally put up an English menu in the front. A true mom and pop store - limited menu offering options I don't often/have never seen in other korean restaurants. It did appear they specialize in grilled fish. But we were attracted to something more soupy - Soy bean soup for me and spicy pollock soup for husband. I wasn't quite sure what soy bean soup meant but I assumed it had to be something close to tofu soup. Unfortunately I was only semi correct - the soy bean = leftover soy remnant/scrap from blending and squeezing out all the milky content. Only the gritty content was used in my soup. It was bland and felt like eating spoonful of sand. There entire bowl was filled to the brim of just that. Sorry dear stomach, but at least I tried? My husband's spicy pollock soup came with essentially an entire fish. Very generous in portion - the fish cooked well. my husband however thought the broth could be a bit thicker and used more spice. Overall - Not bad! But if I had compare all the mom and pop restaurants in the area, wooree and 88 win. 3.5 stars ”
